Roman ear-ring
Description
English: A distorted sub-oval gold wire ring with an integral loop at one end flanked by small coils of fine gold filigree wire, one damaged. Probably an ear-ring.

Date: probably Roman, 1st - 4th century AD.

Dimensions: length 31.3 mm; width 14.6 mm; thickness of wire 1.5 mm.

Weight: 2.58 g.


Non-destructive surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated a gold content of 87-90% and silver content of 9-11%.


In age and precious metal content the object qualifies as Treasure under the terms of the 1996 Treasure Act.
