Description
English: Cast copper alloy Roman brooch fragment from a dragonesque type, dating to c.AD 75-175.

The brooch fragment is from the remains of a terminal, either the head or the foot of the brooch. The terminal has a curving teardrop shape, in the centre of which is a ring and dot motif. The dot is filled with the remains of blue enamel and and the ring red enamel. At the point of the teardrop is a roundel that curves away with only the tip touching the main body. In the centre is a second ring and dot motif with the same enamelled design as the first. The top of the teardrop extends in to a sub-oval projection, the centre of which has a teardrop shaped cell filled with red enamel that has a has a cresent shaped cell filled with blue enamel above. A small section of the tail protrudes from the base of the terminal body.
