Roman dragonesque brooch
Description
English: An incomplete, copper alloy Roman brooch of Dragonesque type, dating from AD 75 - 175. The remaining portion consists of the central body. Both zoomorphic heads are missing. The body is decorated with enamelled cells. There are four central, pointed oval cells forming an X shape filled with pale blue enamel. A sub-triangular cell extends from the angle between each pair to the end of the body at each end, also filled with pale blue enamel. The rest of the field is filled with red enamel. The remaining portion of the brooch is 35.6mm long, 21.4mm wide and 4.9mm thick. 8.68g.
