Roman disc brooch
Description
English: Copper alloy disc brooch with blue glass setting. Missing pin, damaged spring lug and catchplate, corroded and cleaned. Possible traces of gilding on the front; corrosion on the back has possible slight organic impressions, probably not textile. The central conical glass setting is a mid blue colour. The surrounding flat area of the plate has traces of punched dots around the edges and no sign of any other punches. Diameter 34mm, height of plate and setting 13mm. A later Roman native type, as Richborough catalogue no 388 (Bayley & Butcher 2004, 135).
