Title
Roman conical disc brooch
Description
English: A copper-alloy Roman conical disc brooch of second to third century date. The brooch has an extensive, hollow central conical projection with three steps and a small central projection. On each step the lip curves outwards. There is a collar to the central projection with transverse grooves. On the reverse there is a complete double pin lug and it contains the remnants of a copper-alloy pin. The catch-plate is broken. Similar to Hattatt (2000), nos. 1068, 1069 and 1578, suggesting that this is a 'Tutulus' type and is thus likely to be continental. There is a similar find from Suffolk SF-175635. The diameter is 21.11mm, the height is 14.91mm and it weighs 4.68g.
