Roman brooch fragment back
Description
English: An incomplete copper-alloy Hod Hill brooch of Roman (1st century) date. The head is complete with the cylindrical axis bar, the pin is missing. The wider part of the bow is rectangular, its upper surface decorated by four vertical ridges, separated by deep, wide grooves. Both side lugs have been broken off by an old break. The foot remains but is very worn; part of the catch plate visible on the reverse. The brooch is 21.2mm long, 13.0mm wide, 3.2mm thick and weighs 1.9 grams. A similar example can be seen in Hattat's visual catalog, page 322.
