Title
Roman brooch
Description
English: An incomplete, copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch, c. AD 75-175 (Plouviez Period N).

The brooch is missing the pin and most of the catchplate, with only a small part remaining on the lower section of the back, just above the knob-shaped foot. Two perforations are evident in the remains of the catchplate. The head of the brooch is oval, with an intact integral chain loop on top. The back of the head is hollow with a copper alloy pin bar in position through two lugs. The pin bar passes through the remains of the head of the pin, while another small, flat piece of copper alloy is wound around it (perhaps a later repair). The bow of the brooch extends out from the head and turns sharply down to a decorative knob, before tapering down to the foot. Surface decoration is badly worn.
