Title
Roman brooch
Description
English: A fragment of a Roman Tutulus Brooch, dating from the fourth century AD. It is cast and has a concavo-convex plate and a central cone whose base is defined by inscribed lathe turned circumferential lines, and a central boss with a central rounded knop. When complete the circumference of the plate would probhably have had six equidistant lugs set around its rim. The catchplate remains on the rim of the reverse but the hinged pin mechanism is missing. The type is referred to by Mackreth (2011, page 163-4) as a Dished Cone, Type 5. Suggested date: Late Roman, 300-350.

The remains of the brooch measure 23.41 mm long, 15.37 mm wide, 6.17 mm thick and weighs 2.1 grams. It has a green patina.
