Title
Roman brooch: Tutulus brooch
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy Roman tutulus brooch dating from the first to third century AD. The brooch is circular in plan with a raised outer rim from which protrude six (incomplete) small lugs spaced at regular intervals around the outer edge. Four of these lugs are purely decorative, but two lugs directly opposite each other are integrally moulded to conceal the pin hinge and the catchplate, both of which are present. The centre of the brooch rises into a cone that is topped by a rounded moulded central boss with inner pellet. The reverse of the brooch is convex beneath the central boss and the pin is missing.
