Summary
[edit]DescriptionRoman baths 5555.jpg |
Built on the original site of the Roman baths and temple to the goddess Sulis (Minerva). The spa sight was redeveloped in the 12th and 17th C. The majority of this building is now Victorian, based on a design by John Wood. Under pressure, the heated water rises to the surface along fissures and faults in the limestone. Hot water at a temperature of 46 °C rises here at the rate of 1,170,000 litres every day. |
