||
Description |
English: Copper alloy
Brooch. Umbonate or Tutulus Plate Brooch. Cast circular brooch with central conical boss, surrounded by radial ribs defining six deep compartments. These are bordered by a circumferential rib, with another similar rib at the outside. The deep interstices between these ribs would be apt to contain enamel, though no trace of colourant remains. On the reverse a pin and two-coil spring with chord is attached to an oval lug, with a separate lug forming a catch-plate. Suggested date: Early Roman, 100-200.
Diameter: 26.5mm, Thickness (excludes spring gear): 8.9mm, Weight: 11.56gms.
