Description
English: Cast-copper alloy Colchester derivative Polden Hill (Mackreth Class 4, flat wing ends type), Mackreth 2011, 4.l.c. Plate 49.

Mass: 24.3g; length: 69.8mm; width: 27.6mm; depth: 20.2mm. T-shaped in plan with an arched bow and a comma shaped profile. Semi-cylindrical side-wings with incomplete pierced end caps and a hook on the head. The axial rod, spring, external chord and pin are missing. The end caps are highlighted by (incomplete) ribs on the front-ends of the side-wings. There is a discoidal plate on each side of the head. Converging median ribs run down the front of the head and bow, flanked to either side by a line of moulded projections joined by a rib. There is a circular setting in the centre of the front of the bow, probably for a glass pellet which is missing. There is a moulded foot and a slightly incomplete catchplate on the reverse of the bow. The brooch has a well developed brown green, but where this has been lost the surface is green, pitted and irregular.
