Title
Roman Mount from Fridaythorpe
Description
English: Copper alloy, with a strong presence of tin inferred from its greyish tint.

Mount. Cast oval plate with a central oval boss with longitudinal slit; this is aptly described by the finder as vulva shaped, though the form of the object might equally reflect that of a shield. A pair of disc headed or fungiform roves on the back have flattened ends, suggesting they passed through a strap of thickness circa 2.6mm. The back of the object is hollowed behind the boss. Mounts of this form are common on military sites. Suggested date: Roman, 100-300.

Length: 29.2mm, Width: 18.2mm, Thickness (clear of roves): 6.6mm, Weight: 8.57gms.
