Roman Knee Brooch
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman knee brooch dating from about 150-250 AD. The brooch has a flat half-rounded headplate with a sharply angled and bulbous bow which is convex in cross-section and concave on the back. Two lugs on the reverse of the headplate hold a copper alloy axis bar, on which is a copper-alloy spring of six turns; the foot, pin and catchplate are missing. The brooch has a light-medium green patina. See Hattatt's (2000) Visual Catalogue, page 334, figure 193. Please compare to PAS record ID: LIN-71CDA2.
