Description
English: Copper alloy

Brooch. Cast Headstud Brooch fragment, Mackreth type Headstud 4, (cf. Mackreth plate 72 no. 7235 from Carlisle). Cast Brooch with tubular angular wings of D section, with the curved surface behind and decorated in front by paired vertical grooves, retaining an axis bar and a cast hinged pin. The wings are surmounted by a loop with a horizontal rib at its base. The bow is of sub-rectangular section, hollowed behind, with a stud at a sharp change of angle; there is a slight trace of a longitudinal trough below the stud on the display face but most of this and the rest of the lower bow are lost. Suggested date: Early Roman, 75-125.

Length: 30.5mm, Width: 15.6mm, Thickness: 5.0mm, Weight: 4.49gms.
