Title
Roman Finger Ring
Description
English: Roman cast copper alloy finger ring with blue glass intaglio. Only the bezel and shoulders survive. The bezel is oval with an inset oval intaglio covering most of the surface. The ingalio is flush with the top of the bezel. The bezel tapers evenly through the triangular shoulders to an oval sectioned hoop. The hoop is broken at the base of the shoulders on both sides with old breaks. The intaglio is smashed but in situ, the design is therefore unclear but appears to be a draped standing figure, possibly facing right with their hand bent at the elbow and held up in front of their face. The intagio is 12.5mm by 9.2mm and the entire piece is 18.8mm by 11.1mm by 7.0mm; it weighs 2.76 grams.

The ring is of Henig type III dating from the second half of the first to early years of the 2nd century (Henig 1974:47).
