Roman Dragonesque Brooch
Description
English: A fragment of an enamelled dragonesque brooch of Roman date, AD 75 - 175. The remaining portion consists of the central, slightly domed oval body, together with the stubs of the two arms. The upper side retains parts of a geometric design in red, blue and yellow enamel. There is a central, transverse row of yellow lozenges, flanked by two inward facing rows of red triangles. Other sections of blue and red enamel are also visible. The underside of the brooch is flat. The remaining fragment is 21.3mm long, 11.9mm wide and 3.3mm thick. It weighs 2.11gm.
