English: Copper alloy
Fragment of a Colchester-derivative Dolphin Brooch with tubular wings decorated with grooves imitating appearance of a spring, and slot for a hinged pin (probably lost). A pronounced medial rib at the crest of the bow may be decorative; the rest of bow and brooch is lost. Heavily abraded with active bronze disease. One of several similar brooches from this location. Length (along bow): 17.31mm, Width (across wings): 38.14mm, Thickness (wings): 7.20mm, Weight: 11.68gms. Suggested date: Early Roman, 50-100 |
