Title
Roman Coin Hoard: Reverses
Description
English: This report will consider these coins with respect to the criteria laid down in the Treasure act (1996): Namely, their age, precious metal content and whether the coins can be said to come from the same find.

Description of the coins

The majority (16) of the coins are of a denomination commonly known as the nummus, produced from the reign of Constantine I (AD 306-337) and that of his sons; the earliest of these is thought to date to the period AD 318-330 but it is very worn and cannot be identified with certainty. The latest eight coins were issued under the house of Valentinian (AD 364-378). One of the coins is of an earlier denomination known as a 'radiate', and is likely to have been in circulation since the later part of the third century AD. It could be a stray find, but it is equally likely that it was still in circulation at the time of the deposition of the group, due to its similar size.

From the same find?
The composition of this group of coins is typical of what one might expect to have been circulating in Britain towards the middle of the fourth century AD.

Conclusion
On the balance of probabilities, therefore, I conclude that these coins belong together as a hoard and constitute a prima facie case of treasure by being bronze coins of an antiquity greater than 300 years and are of one find of ten or more pieces.
