Title |
Roman Aucissa derivative brooch (probably) |
||
Description |
English: A worn fragment from a cast copper-alloy Roman brooch probably derived from the Aucissa type, possibly a Hod Hill type. The fragment consists of the leg and lower part of the bow. The bow is sub-rectangular with longitudinal ribbing. It is 'openwork' with three recesses which are presumably deliberate rather than the result of wear. The leg narrows significantly below the bow before tapering gradually to the foot, terminating in a large globular knob. On the lower surface of the foot the catchplate has been abraded and bent. The brooch now has a red-brown colour. |
