Title
Roman : Ear ring
Description
English: Date: Probably 2nd - 3rd Century

A gold Roman ear ring, complete albeit for a stone setting. The ear ring is form from a simple gold wire loop, which has a circular section. It is bent over itself and terminates with a blunt tip. The loop is soldered into the reverse of the decorative part of the ear ring. This main element is circular with a central cylinder of gold sheet. This cylinder probably once held a stone or gem. Soldered about the edge of the cylinder there is a flat circular collar. The collar has been shaped with a shallow peak and trough type design and in each trough there is a small petal-like feature. These features don not quite reach the edge of the central cylinder so there are gaps in the gold work.
