Title
Roman : Dragonesque Brooch
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy dragonesque brooch of Roman date. The brooch is curvilinear in form resulting in a roughly S-shaped piece which is extremely worn rendering any decoration illegible. The only discernable feature is a raised central boss. The reverse is slightly concave and undecorated.

The metal has a light brownish-green patina and is worn. The brooch is 34mm long, 16.7mm wide, 5.9mm thick and weighs 8.3g.

Similar examples can be seen in Hattatt, p.351, fig.210 and are dated to the 2nd century AD.
