Title |
Roman (probably) tweezers |
||
Description |
English: Copper-alloy tweezers probably dating from the Roman period. Bent but complete. There is a loop at the top, below which the two arms expand in width, terminating with slightly incurving blade ends. Mass: 10.7g; width of blade ends: 10mm. Similar tweezers have been recorded in contexts from the Roman period (e.g. see: "Colchester Archaeological Report 2: The Roman small finds from excavtions in Colchester 1971-9", Crummy, 1983, figure 63 and p58-59, and "Excavations at a large Romano-British settlement at Hatcheson, Suffolk in 1973-4", Blagg, Plouviez and Tester, 2004, figure 77 and p.116). But there are also similar but smaller tweezers recorded from medieval deposits in: "Colchester Archaeological Report 5: The post-Roman small finds from excavations in Colchester 1971-85", Crummy, 1988, figure 29, number 1884, and p.26-7. |
