Title
Roman (possibly) tanged knife
Description
English: An incomplete iron tang-knife, possibly dating from the Roman period. Length: 98.0mm; width: 14.4mm; thickness: 3mm (tang). Mass: 9.3g. The back of the knife drops at the end to join the cutting edge at the tip. The cutting edge is incomplete, but appears to have been slightly convex in plan. The blade has a triangular cross-section. The knife has a tapering tang. The corroded surface of the knife has been removed by the finder. The knife has a similar form to Manning’s Type 14 Romano-British knife (see Manning, 1985, “Catalogue of the Romano-British Iron Tools, Fittings and Weapons in the British Museum, p.115).
