in the afternoon.The day was superb. The sky wascloudless, a stiff wind was blowing inthe north-west, the sun glinted on thewaves, white caps dotted the bosom ofthe lake, while a large fish hawk poisedhimself against the gale on high. Onshore the stately Golden Rod swayedback and forth in the wind, blue-bellsnodded hysterically as the nor-westerplayed amongst them, while the CardinalFlower waved to and fro till portions ofthe shore seemed all ablaze. This is amost inadequate description of the glor- him that if he would keep on rowingI would see that the fish received properattention. After playing him nicely tillhe was well tired I landed, with a rightswing at the right time, an eight poundmaskinonge. Bruce smiled and still moved on inthe teeth of the gale -to the west. Theheavy swell made progress slow, butBruce was intent upon taking us to theold spot, and the chug, chug! wassteadily maintained for three quart-ers of an hour. By that time I waspretty certain that we had arrived at

Bruce Took my Photo. ies of the scene that greeted us as werowed out into the west. As Bruce was attired in a sculling suitI gave him more than a gentle hint todo the rowing. He undertook the workand executed it with much grace whileI sat in the stern, steering and playingmy red copper bait. When we got fairlyout in the lake the boat rose and fellupon the waves with a chug! chug!and the waves flew over the bow. While in full enjoyment of the breezylake I received one of those electric tugswhich told me I had connected with afish. When I told Bruce I intimated to I Snapped Bruce. the desired place and called to Bruce tocast anchor. No sooner had he complied with myrequest and let the anchor go, than hegrasped his rod with a quick, spasmodicmovement and made a cast, while theboat was dancing about on the waveslike a toy. While I was getting out myrod and securing a bait, I saw Brucesrod make a semi-circle and he exclaim-ed, I have the first fish, boy! Hisstatement proved to be correct.
