Summary

[edit]
Description

c/n 3127 Built 1972 This famous Shrike Commander was flown at air displays by ex-military test pilot R.A. ‘Bob’ Hoover between 1979 and 2000. His unforgettable routine included demonstrating the aircrafts single-engined and no-engined performance. With both engines shut down, he would complete a loop and a roll before returning for a ‘deadstick’ landing and parking the aircraft at crowd-centre. When he retired in April 2000 he donated the aircraft to the Smithsonian Institute and it is seen on display at the Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center as part of the National Air and Space Museum.
