Image title | Shown is a close-up of the cluster bomb damage of the runway at Roberts International Airport, located outside of Monrovia, Liberia. The holes could be a hazard for aircraft landing at the airport. The runway is two miles long and is being used by United States Air Force C-130E Hercules aircraft from the 86th Air Wing out of Ramstein Air Base, Germany, for Operation ASSURED LIFT. ASSURED LIFT is a Joint Task Force (JTF) operation to provide airlift and other logistical support to West African states that are deploying more than 600 troops to Liberia as part of the region's ongoing peacekeeping mission. Most of the inbound West African forces will come from the country of Mali, with the Ivory Coast and Ghana also expected to contribute troops. |
