Portrait of Richard Wingfield (d.1591) (by Robert Peake the Elder, dated 1587 (and dated 20 Dec. in a later hand)). He married firstly Mary Hardwick, a daughter and co-heiress of John Hardwick of Derbyshire - hence the inescutcheon of Hardwick on the coat of arms. Formerly identified as his great-granduncle Humphrey Wingfield (b. before 1481, d. 1545). Arms: Quarterly of 26, with inescutcheon of pretence of Hardwick overall (Hardwick: Argent, a saltire engrailed azure on a chief of the second three cinquefoils of the first):
