4-1/2 x 6-1/2 brown tone photograph of Robert Dale Owen, of New Harmony, Indiana fame. He was the eldest son of Robert Owen, Scottish sociologist, who founded the utopian community of New Harmony, Indiana. Robert Dale was an ardent Spiritualist who promoted the cause privately and publicly and in the State Senate. It was he who converted his father to Spiritualism."Robert Dale Owen is the son of Robert Owen who founded New Harmony, Indiana. He sat with Livermore and Kate Fox. "The high water mark of Katie's powers as a medium for materializations was undoubtedly the unparalleled series of hundreds of seances held for Mr. C. F. Livermore, in New York City, 1861-1866. Robert Dale Owen also sat with the Taylors at given periods. (II)43 May 25, 187. Robert Dale Owen obtained a promise from Katie to abstain for 6 months... "We are happy to have Mr. Owen here this morning, and we will register Katie's promise in heaven in the home of her mother." Mr. and Mrs. Fox died in 1865.""Robert Dale Owen was of importance in the making of the Fox-Taylor records. His father was the founder of New Harmony, Indiana. This photograph is published in the book, Katie Fox and the Making of the Fox-Taylor Record, by W. C. Langworthy Taylor."
