English: Ice racing at Gjersjøen outside Oslo, Norway in February 1926. Robert Benoist drives a 1923 5-litre V12 Delage DF "Torpille" (french for "Torpedo"), 190 hp, which supposedly was owned by his friend Rene Thomas.[1] Only two cars in this heat (the other did not finish), so Benoist won (5 times 3 km track). He was invited as a marketing stunt for the Delage dealership in Oslo (Gustav Thrane Steen) and "stole the show"[2][3] One report says the car had an engine fire[4] |
