Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A common spotted orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii) growing on a verge along Soroba Road (A816) between Soroba House and The Lorn and Islands District General Hospital. During the Covid-19 pandemic Argyll and Bute Council pared back routine maintenance to a minimum, leaving the verges unmown to become miniature wildflower meadows, with a number of these orchids blooming along this stretch of highway. This verge and those opposite were mown on June 23, 2020. This particularly handsome specimen is a sole survivor, despite being within the mown section by 2-3 inches. Apparently, whoever was strimming the grass didn't have the heart to cut it down, and has deviated from the line they were taking to allow it to survive.
