Description
English: River Tillingham from Crown & Anchor Hotel The point where the watch was kept on the south western side of the cliff. The wooded hill in the distance is Winchelsea and the area between was once a tidal estuary of the Tillingham and Brede then saltmarsh as both rivers silted up. Until the 18th century the only method of transport between the two towns was by ferry.
