| Description |
English: River Misbourne in Amersham Old Town Viewed looking upstream from the A416 Station Road bridge, the river is definitely not in the bottom of the valley here, with the ground to the left generally lower. However an examination of the 1883 Ordnance Survey map shows a corn mill just downstream of here by The Chequers public house, and a smaller stream running through the lowest part of the valley, so the main route of the river is now probably running in a leat built to provide a head of water for the mill. In the meantime the original route of the river has disappeared from sight entirely. |
