Summary
[edit]DescriptionRiver Greta Confluence - geograph.org.uk - 1226997.jpg |
English: River Greta Confluence The Keswick Greta is formed by the confluence of St. John's Beck (flowing from Thirlmere and entering under the arch with the van in this view) and the River Glenderramackin whose waters rise on Blencathra. The white mark visible on the downstream side of the centre bridge pier is a level marker related to the access agreement for canoeists. During the critical spawning season in November and December when disturbance to the gravel beds could be particularly damaging, paddling is not permitted if the level is below the white mark. At other times of the year, paddling is allowed at all times. However, with the level as low as shown here, it really is not worthwhile as the river is too shallow for progress most of the way. |
