Description
English: Ringlet butterfly (Aphantopus hyperantus). This butterfly can be found throughout Northern Ireland, Wales and southern England, it is less commonly seen in Scotland. Male Ringlet butterflies can be almost black when young but fade to brown with age. The eye spots which give the butterfly its name are variable in size and shape. The Ringlet's preferred habitats are woodland rides and meadows where it feeds on nectar. Ringlet caterpillars eat various grasses. For a view of a Ringlet with closed wings see > 1388336.
