Title
ring brooch (front)
Description
English: Cast gilt copper alloy annular ring brooch, circular in plan and in section, with four expanded circular knops or collars, 7 mm in diameter, spaced out at equal intervals along the hoop. Each collar is defined on either side by a moulded line that runs around the circumference of the hoop. The brooch is missing its pin, but has a recessed spindle section, 2 mm in diameter, at one end of the hoop where the sheet copper alloy pin would have wound around the spindle. There are patches of gilding that remain around the moulded lines at the sides of the collars.

Hattatt (2000) illustrates a similar ring brooch on page 382, Fig.241, No.1711, which is dated from the 13th to the 15th century.

Egan & Pritchard (2002) illustrate two similar annular brooches, with four circular knops, on page 253, Fig.163, Nos.1330 & 1333, which are dated from c.1350-1400
