DESCRIPTION "T'was a fateful night here on October the 19th in 1865 when the entire east side of Keene's Central Square was obliterated by a raging fire. All the buildings were demolished from the Town Hall to Roxbury Street, including the "fireproof" handsome iron front structure of the Cheshire Mills. Wind fanned flames threatened the Cheshire House just across the way but it was saved due to the diligent work by the firefighters."
