Richard John Seddon (seated at left), his wife (centre, in dark dress), his daughters Mary and Louise, Frederic Wallis, (Anglican Bishop of Wellington, right, kneeling)) and his wife (centre, with hand in kava bowl), W Crow (Seddon's private secretary), British Consul to Samoa Thomas Berry Cusack Smith (centre, at rear), and the Samoan King, Malietoa Laupepa (seated at right). Photographed in 1897 by an unknown Photographer. On the 15th of April, 1897, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Richard John Seddon and party left Wellington on the RMSS Alameda to attend the Diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria. Their first port of call was Apia Samoa where these photographs were taken. |
