Description
English: This handheld rice harvest knife from northern Buton Island, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia is made from bamboo, the recycled steel blade of a knife with broken tang, and cloth to wedge the blade in place. The bamboo handle is 17 cm long, the blade 13 cm. Each rice harvest knife is made to fit the hand of the owner. The bamboo handle is gripped with the ring finger and pinkie below the blade, while the index and middle fingers are used to draw the rice stems to the blade. The Indonesian name for this implement is ani-ani, the local (Kulisusu) name is pota.
