ftBUar90 By GAILLARDIA grandiflora. Gaillardias are among the most effective of hardy perennial plants; beginning to flower in June, they continue in bloom the entire season; they will thrive in almost any position or in any soil, but respond freely to liberal feeding ; being perfectly hardy they require absolutly no protection, taking care of themselves. The flowers are large, from 2y2 to 3% in. in diameter; they are produced on long stems and are excellent for cutting. The center is dark red brown, while the petals are variously marked with rings of brilliant scarlet crimson, orange and vermil- ion, and often a combination of all these colors in one flower. Strong clumps for im- mediate effect. 15 cts each; $1.50 per doz; $10.00 per 100. GYPS0PHILA paniculata (Babys Breath). A beautiful old-fashioned perennial, possessing a grace not found in any other perennial. When in bloom it is 2 to 3 ft. in height and as much through, of minute pure white flowers, forming a beautiful gauze-like ap- pearance. For cutting purposes it is exquisite, especially in combination with high-colored flowers. 15 cts. each ; $1.50 per doz. HELENIUM autumnale (Sneeze Weed). A grand and conspicuous plant, with large flat lemon yellow flowers; grows about 4 feet high. 25 cts. each ; 82.50 per doz. HELI0PSIS Pitcherianus (Orange Sunflower). A desirable hardy herbaceous plant, growing 3 ft. high, and a perpetual bloomer, beginning to flower early in the season and continuing in bloom the entire summer. The flowers are of a deep golden-yellow color, about 2 in. in diameter, of very thick texture, and are very graceful for cutting. 15 cts. each; $1.50 per doz. HELIANTHUS (Sunflower). All of easiest culture in any ordinary soil. Though there are a great many species in cultivation, we limit the list below to such as possess true merit, both in the color and shape of the flower and freedom from weediness. Those mentioned are admi- rable for the flower border or to use with shrubbery. H. decapetalus. 4 ft. July to September. Broad heads of bright yellow flowers. One of the finest in the class. 20 cts. each ; $2.00 per doz. H. laetiflorus semi-plenus. 5 ft. July to October. One of the most valuable of the class, with large, cup-shaped, semi-double, deep orange- yellow flowers, each on a long, wiry stem, ad- mirable for cutting. 20c. each: $2.00 per doz. H. Maximiliana. S ft. October to November. An elegant species. The latest bloomer of its class, as well as one of the latest of all flowers. Flowers clear yellow, varying from 3 to 5 in. across, with several lows of petals and a full center. Handsome in bud or flower. 25 cts. each ; $2.50 per doz. H. mollis grandiflorus. 5 ft. July to August. Thick, velvety foliage of a distinct silvery tinge. Flowers lemon-yellow. 25 cts. each ; $2.50 per doz. H. multiflorus. 4 ft. July to September.
