Description	English: Rhizopogon vinicolor A.H. Sm.: observed in Viento State Park, Hood River Co., Oregon, USA. Notes: Abundant in 9 square yard area, under old-growth Douglas-fir. According to James Trappe , Rhizopogon vinicolor is the most collected Rhizopogon in western Oregon and Washington, with Douglas-fir. The vinaceous staining is distinctive. Sporocarps are often partially epigeous, sometimes completely hypogeous, and often partially exposed by animal predation. This grouping was first found by looking for surface sporocarps exposed by animals (squirrels, voles, etc).
