Description
English: Rhipicephalus appendiculatus (Ixodidae), South Africa, Limpopo, Waterberg District Municipality, Mokgalakwena Local Municipality, Palala (Lephalala) river. R. appendiculatus transmits the protozoan Theileria parva, the cause of East Coast fever in cattle, and it transmits the different strains of Th. parva that cause Corridor or Buffalo disease and Zimbabwean theileriosis. It also transmits Th. taurotragi causing benign bovine theileriosis. Bacteria transmitted are Anaplasma bovis (= Ehrlichia bovis) causing bovine ehrlichiosis, and Rickettsia conorii causing boutonneuse fever (= Mediterranean spotted fever) in humans.
