| Description |
The classic view of Rhine castles, from TEE Rheinpfeil. Die Pfalz, a robber baron's castle in the middle of the river, is in the foreground. Kaub is on the bank of the Rhine, and Burg Gutenfels is in the background. It is late March, and the scene is still in its winter color. The train is not the best way to see the Rhine. You can see only the east bank. Everything goes by too quickly, because the train is traveling at about 100 kph (60 mph). I probably took this photo from the upper deck of the dome car, a special feature of the Rheingold and Rheinpfeil trains at that time (1970). |
