| Description |
English: Rhes Cilfodan Terrace These are former quarrymen's cottages. Cilfodan, like all other parts of Bethesda, are dominated by the Penrhyn Quarry. It is like a city set on a hill which cannot be hidden. During the 1900-03 lockout, its presence must have been particularly galling for the quarrymen and their families. People of the slate quarrying districts always had a love-hate relationship with quarries - they were their source of livelyhood and the raison d'etre for their communities but they were also a harsh physical and socio-political environment in which to work. |
