[edit]DescriptionRey Heredia Social Center - Flickr - Me in ME.jpg |
This was taken from the top of a Moorish era fortified tower at the south end of the ancient Roman bridge that crosses the Guadalquivir (river). I liked this building in the foreground very much. Some details are given below. I think the name of this social center goes back to 1918 when the plan to build this school began and it was given this name. The Rey Heredia Social Center [Centro Social Rey Heredia) is an abandoned public school located in the municipality of Córdoba. It was occupied by the Acampada Dignidad de Córdoba and transformed into a social center in October 2013. It was squatted after a demonstration protesting the cut in pensions. The squat was claimed on October 5, 2013 by the Acampada Dignidad de Córdoba. In January 2015, the Córdoba City Council finally agreed to hand over the building to the Casa de la Ciudadanía Sur association and the Acampada Dignidad Córdoba. The planned activities range from medium-term initiatives such as establishing contact with small businesses in the neighborhood in order to study the possibility of launching a food bank and soup kitchen in the facilities, to continuing to recover unused spaces, this time for the starting up an urban garden. On an educational level, it is planned to launch support classes for families without resources, educational workshops on different issues, the launch of a library, or the launch of advice for the residents of the neighborhood on matters work, social, etc. Mobilizations have also been planned around banking and evictions, informative talks on cuts in pensions or basic income.[radar.squat.net] |
