sys-tematized the work, reports that it has done more forthe cause of higher education in Cincinnati than anyother movement during a score of years. It has im-pressed forcibly on the public mind the importance ofliigher education and strengthened the influence ofthe University not only among the teachers of thecity, but among the ministers, editors, lawyers and busi-ness men who have attended the courses. An effort to introduce greater system in the Uni-versity Extension work of Ohio has taken the formof a state society, organized in the spring of 1892,of which President Charles W. Super, of the OhioUniversity, is the head. At a meeting of the Councilon November 18, it was decided to secure a Stateorganizer who should assist in developing the work inconnection with the fourteen or fifteen colleges rep-resented in the society. The work was organ-ized in affiliation with the American Society, and inthe spring of 1890 Dr. J. W. Jenks, then of IndianaUniversity, gave a course of twelve lectures on TheElements of Political Economy. The growing inter-est in Extension teaching led the faculty of IndianaUniversity to appoint in June, 1891, a committee onUniversity Extension. In the fall of that year,courses were announced on a dozen different sub-jects, and during the year lectures were given bymembers of the faculty in Indianapolis, Evansvilleand New Albany, and in Louisville and Chicago.Prof. James A.
