Dr. Joseph Swain,president of Indiana University, resigns to be-come head of Swarthmore College. Dr. Dan F.Bradley was inaugurated president of Iowa Col-lege on June 11, and Prof. John H. T. Main wasinstalled as dean of the faculty. Dr. George H.Denny was inaugurated as president of Washing-ton and Lee University, on June 17. Some distinguished names appear in^Notes^ our obituary list this month. King Albert of Saxony died on June 19 atthe age of seventy four, and on the same dayLord Acton, the great English scholar and pro-fessor of modern history at Cambridge, died atthe age of sixty-eight. To Lord Pauncefotesdeath we have already referred. The death ofPresident John H. Barrows, of Oberlin College,was deeply deplored-. The foremost memberof the Southern Presbyterian church was thevenerable Dr. Benjamin Morgan Palmer, of NewOrleans, who was in his eighty-fourth year.Dean Hoffman, of the General TheologicalSeminary of New York, and the Rev. Dr. GeorgeH. Hepworth, also died last month.
