Description
English: Lycaenidae are a species-rich family of butterflies. Most of the species are highly specialized which leads to their current endangerment in Central Europe. The Reverdin's Blue is one of them. It is endemic but strongly endangered in Rheinland-Pfalz (https://lfu.rlp.de/fileadmin/lfu/Naturschutz/Dokumente/Rote_Liste/RoteListe_Schmetterlinge_201401.pdf, p. 32) due to the loss and fragmentation of habitats and intensive agricultural land use. Germany has lost three quarters in biomass of flying insects and many species have become rare, threatened or already extinct. Six years ago, Dave Goulson of Sussex University warned that we are "currently on course for ecological Armageddon" (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/oct/18/warning-of-ecological-armageddon-after-dramatic-plunge-in-insect-numbers).

The rural district Alzey-Worms is characterized by intensive viticulture with only 1 % nature conservation area (6.6 km² nature reserve and 588.1 km² total area, see: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_Naturschutzgebiete_im_Landkreis_Alzey-Worms and https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landkreis_Alzey-Worms). The "Aulheimer Tälchen", where the Reverdin's Blue still can be found, is one of those tiny spots measuring 0.15 km².

If we want to prevent species like the Reverdin's Blue from extinction we need more and larger restoration areas and networks immediately. Otherwise it will be too late to stop the mass extinction that we caused.
Deutsch: Lycaenidae sind eine artenreiche Schmetterlings-Familie. Die meisten Arten sind hochspezialisiert, was zu ihrer akuten Gefährdung in Mitteleuropa führt. Der Kronwicken-Bläuling ist eine dieser Arten. In seiner Heimat Rheinland-Pfalz gilt er aktuell als stark gefährdet (https://lfu.rlp.de/fileadmin/lfu/Naturschutz/Dokumente/Rote_Liste/RoteListe_Schmetterlinge_201401.pdf, S. 32). Der Verlust und die Fragmentierung der Lebensräume sowie die intensive Landwirtschaft sind Ursache des Rückgangs. Deutschland hat drei Viertel der Biomasse an Fluginsekten verloren und viele Arten gelten als selten, gefährdet oder bereits ausgestorben. Vor sechs Jahren warnte Dave Goulson von der University of Sussex, dass wir uns "aktuell auf einem Kurs in ein ökologisches Armaggedon" befinden (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/oct/18/warning-of-ecological-armageddon-after-dramatic-plunge-in-insect-numbers).

Der Landkreis Alzey-Worms ist von intensivem Weinbau geprägt. Nur 1 % der Gesamtfläche des Landkreises sind Naturschutzgebiete (6.6 km² im Verhältnis zu 588.1 km², siehe https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_Naturschutzgebiete_im_Landkreis_Alzey-Worms und https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landkreis_Alzey-Worms). Das "Aulheimer Tälchen", wo man den Kronwicken-Bläuling immer noch finden kann, ist eines dieser kleinen Flecken und misst 0.15 km².

Wenn wir Arten wie den Kronwicken-Bläuling vor dem Aussterben bewahren wollen, brauchen wir dringend mehr und größere Naturschutzgebiete und Biotopvernetzungen bevor es zu spät ist. Sonst werden wir das Massenaussterben, welches wir Menschen verursacht haben, nicht abwenden können.
