English: Military Cross holder, Rev J.E.M. Watson. Rev John Edmund Watson was awarded the Military Cross "for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty". The London Gazette of 16th September 1918 said of him that "during six days fighting this Chaplain was in line with the battalion and in close touch with the men, being indefatigable in his attention to the wounded". He was educated at Royal School Dungannon, and Trinity College. He was a Church of Ireland Minister, like his father, and Curate of St James' Parish, Belfast. He joined the Army in December 1915 and was attached to the Army Chaplains Department attending the Middlesex Regiment. He was killed aged 31 on 10th April 1918. He is buried at the British Military Cemetery in Haverskerque, France. |
