Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Allegorical engraving celebrating the annexation of the left bank of the Rhine to the French Republic following the signing of the Treaty of Lunéville in February 1801. The de facto annexation had already taken place shortly after the Treaty of Campo Formio of 1797, but the Treaty of Lunéville made it official in international law. The annexation was euphemistically called a 'reunion' by the French. On the right-hand side of the engraving are the names of the three consuls, including First Consul Bonaparte, followed by the names of the War Minister and various army generals. One of the artists who designed the engraving was the Jacobin Nikolaus Müller from Mainz.
